I've been hosting the Exit Five podcast for 2+ years now.

We're coming up on 150 episodes.

One of the reasons I love having a podcast is because I get to sit down with an expert in B2B marketing for an hour each week; I get to spend time getting smarter about marketing so we can do a better job of teaching to our audience.

Having the Exit Five podcast has allowed me to stay sharp despite the fact that I haven't held a marketing leadership role in a few years now (since shifting to create Exit Five; I still do a lot of marketing, but it's different now).

Since we're a media company, we want to squeeze as much juice out of every piece of content as we can -- and with a 1 hour conversation with a subject matter expert, there's a lot of juice to squeeze. In the past I felt like I was leaving a lot on the table.

OK, we recorded this podcast episode and published it, maybe made a clip or two for LinkedIn to promote the episode, and that's it. But last year, I started to use AI to help get more out of each episode. So here's something that I do now:

1. We record each episode of the Exit Five podcast with Zencastr. They give us a transcript of each episode (if you're not using Zencastr you could use something like Rev to get a transcript too).

2. I will take the transcript from the podcast and give it to ChatGPT (or any AI writing tool)

3. I will ask for a summary of the podcast episode; this helps us write headlines and key takeaways for the podcast, for YouTube, and for any clips and promo of the podcast.

4. I can also then take the transcript and turn it into an email for our weekly Exit Five newsletter. With a 1 hour conversation, we could realistically come up with 3-5 different emails based on the lessons, learnings, and takeaways from the podcast.

5. I can also then turn these into outlines or articles for our website and future content. If you work in Content, you know how important repurposing content is. You spend so much time creating content, and no matter how good it is, only a small percentage of people will ever seen it.

For example: a 50% open rate is consider high. But that also means 50% of your list never even opened your email (!) Or consider the fact that thousands of people might come to your website, but less than 5% of them engage with your website content.

Or the fact that I have 165,000 followers on L*nkedIn, but each post reaches < 10% of those followers.

You need to find ways to repurpose and redistribute content that you already created (vs. always being on the hamster wheel of having to create new content).

Transcripts from podcast episodes are gold for content repurposing. But prior to having access to AI tools, this would be a pretty big manual effort.
